Upgrades to intersections and roadways in the Fernway community are underway after more than a year of engagement and planning.
The Township began engaging with Fernway residents in March 2019 via a survey. Among several topics identified, the survey indicated most respondents wanted to see improvements that addressed traffic concerns and pedestrian connectivity.
This feedback was further discussed during a resident forum in April 2019. A second forum was held in September 2019 to specifically discuss traffic and pedestrian challenges in the neighborhood.
At this forum, staff presented an intersection improvement plan to the residents that was met with overwhelming support. The final, refined plan was presented at a third resident forum in November 2019.
The roadway improvements were presented to the Board of Supervisors in June. The work includes upgrading intersections and adding lane markings aimed at calming traffic and improving pedestrian safety. All work is expected to be completed by the end of July 2020 and will be evaluated throughout the fall to determine the effectiveness of the plan.
